THE BRIDGE PRESS PROCESS
seven steps to independent-publishingSeven Steps to Independent-Publishing
The Bridge Press Process is our signature 7-step process that is designed to assist writers with book idea conception, manuscript development, and consultation on all aspects of the independent-publishing process.
Discovery Session:
During the discovery session, we’ll assess the merits of your proposed book. A great idea is just that, until further explored. As such, we will take all ideas through an originality appraisal, to determine whether it’s truly unique and equally feasible to develop.
Concept Development:
Now that we’ve confirmed that the book idea is practical, we take the deep dive to develop the concept within its genre. To know how best to position/couch (what perspective the author should take) the book concept, we’ll research and review similar titles within the genre.
Book Outline:
At this step in the book development process, we’ll outline the book by developing a table of contents and by drafting any diagrams, charts, tables, etc. that will aid the author in writing. Before the author even begins to write, he/she should be able to tell the story by simply using the table of contents and the supporting diagrams, charts, tables, etc.
Manuscript Development:
Now you’re ready to write. Using the book outline and the supporting materials, you’ll begin to draft the manuscript for publication. The manuscript will go through a series of conceptual reviews (chapter-by-chapter) to ensure the author remains on target.
Editing Process:
Moving from book idea to completed manuscript is a huge accomplishment. While the conceptual reviews ensured that the original idea was fully developed from chapter-to-chapter, the editorial reviews ensure that the manuscript is structurally and grammatically ready for production. The editing process is comprehensive and ranges from proofreading, copyediting, to substantive content editing, as necessary.
Book Design:
We will work with the author to determine the formats (hardcover, paperback, and/or e-book) and design the book’s cover and interior to meet the specifications of the printer. We will also obtain U.S. Copyright Registration, Library of Congress Control Number (LCCN), and ISBNs to create the appropriate barcodes and include them on the book cover.
Book Production:
All final files will be uploaded to the printer. A sample book is produced for review and final approval. Upon approval, we will work with the author to determine the quantity of books for the initial order. Finally, a book launch and distribution strategy are outlined for the author.
